My Morning Jacket

Im not exactly a rock music lover but there are a few artist that would fall around that category that I really like.
Among them Stooges some old Danzig(for memories sake) Ramones to name a few.
Seldom do I find any new rock bands that really impress me.
Although last summer I was playing a festival in Spain with José González and we were checking out the bands playing after the show.
Half of the group really wanted to go see My Morning Jacket, I had never heared of them.
I decided to tag along even though I wasnt in the mood to listen to a bunch of loud guitars. I sound like a old lady but I get easily bored.
Anyhuu the concert was amazing the band had so much energy and they really gave there all.
I felt a sincereness in there music, they werent just a bunch of hipsters.
After the show I was a uplifted inspired fan.
This is my favorite song, its not exactly the most lock an loll but it sure has soul! ; )

Good old gothenburg!

Malmö

Been spending these last few days mixing the new Little Dragon album in Malmö.
.....It's Sweden's best city after Gothenburg ! Ask any Swede ; )
Last night I was invited to come listen to my good friend Shirin dj.
It was fun to check the Malmö vibe, the music was mostly of 90´s hip-hop and ragga.
When I walked home the snow glistened under the streetlights and for a minute it felt like most romantic place on earth.
It was fun to come out after having been in the bubble of mixing, you need the cold air to wake you up.
Cant wait to release the album, let the songs run free... bare legs crisscrossing the continents haha laugh laugh skratt skratt.
Got some machine dreams in my pocket.

Michael Jackson,James Brown and..... Prince

Out of Michael Jackson, James Brown and Prince I must admit that Prince is the one I have listened to the most.
There is obviously no reason to compare such geniuses against each-other, they have all made a serious contribution to music history in there own way.
But then I must just dwell a bit on why I love Prince.
Despite all the great songs roaming the world few will lift me to the state of "I Would Die For You". If you haven't listened to that track for a while then DO IT , it wont fail to make magic... I swear!
Once I heard a rumor of him being Jehovah ( Its probably true) apparently the song is about Jesus. As an atheist it takes away some of the charm. But who cares what he meant, for me its all about serious love between lovers.
Prince has severe control over his videos, you wont find a single one on youtube.
Just the funny ones, I get the feeling he is under some pressure on this one lol...enjoy !

So the Australian tour with José has come to an end.
The shows have been going supa dupa, and we Swedes happily got a break from our darkest most dreadful winter season ; )
Its been a difficult sad time though with all the bush fires that have devastated the country.
Last I heard thousands where homeless and 300 people died.
My heart goes out to all the people who have lost someone or have lost their home.

Gillian Welch

I have never been that into bluegrass music or country, Im sure that if went a bit deeper into the genre I would find bits and pieces to like.
Well Gillian Welch is about as close as I have come so far.
First time I heard her sing I was struck by the honest simplicity of her style.
There was nothing superficial about her, no blown up ego or hipness to disguise the music, just good old fashioned american songs.
Couldn't find my favorite songs on the net but here is a taste.

Yelle is a favorite! Great performers, saw them in Tokyo and it was indeed full on electric!

Best ever.....South African Music (Nwampfundla)

If you explore youtube properly you will find the best music!!
Check Out the dancing!! !!

Johannes Nyholm

This is part of a short film made by Johannes Nyholm.
Johannes is a ambitious creative genius with many ideas and a good sense of self irony.
I went to see this film at hagabion in Gothenburg, you really should see the whole film.
Besides DockPojken (Puppet Boy) he has made loads of interesting music videos including Little Dragon's Twice video.

Disco Fever!

At the moment Im in Australia touring with José González. It took some ridiculously long 24 hours to fly but it was all worth it for some sun coming from the bitter dark cold winter of Gothenburg (although it has its charm). Besides its not so bad when imagine how people used to travel back in the days by boat for weeks or months .
I started listening to Erik's ipod on the plane since he sat next to me,and there I closed my eyes and found myself at a disco...wiiiiuuu! I think Saturday love is one of my all time favorites!

Arquipelago - Gui Boratto

Little Dragon drummer Erik has found a new love for house music. After spending a month in Pretoria South Africa he came back slightly burnt, high on life and eager to play all mix tapes he gotten from people. Seems like house is the word in Pretoria. I tried to find some of the tracks on the net but they seem to be hiding. There was one track I especially like by Dj Cleo-Ndia, feat Zulu Naja ( couldn't find it) . Well heres Gui Borattos beat to guid you into a high dancing zen like state!
Sorry the video is not top notch folks....; )

Ethiopian Music!

Elias and Fred chilling out!

I was first introduced to Ethiopian music by a friend of mine called Elias Araya.
He had bought a couple of tapes with Aster Awake when he was visiting Ethiopia that he would play.
Her voice felt so foreign and made such a strong impression on me.
I listened so much to her songs that I started making up stories of what they were about.
It was very expressive, sometimes mysterious sometimes romantic.
The sound on the tapes were charmingly lowfi with allot of distortion and crackling noises.
I've tried desperately to find those songs but it must be old rare material, nothing you can find on itunes ; )

Ethiopia has 80 different ethnic groups each associated with a unique sound of music.
I would love to go there one day.
Not only becouse its one of the oldest countries in the world and has yielded some of humanity's oldest traces but to be able to buy all the tapes I want!!
